The Rendez-vous '87 was an ice hockey series of two friendly games in 1987 between an all-star team of the North American professional league National Hockey League and the national ice hockey team of the USSR . The two games took place in Québec on February 11 and 13, 1987 . The series replaced the NHL All-Star Game that year . The games were hosted by the NHL Québec Nordiques franchise .

The two games were played in the Colisée de Québec . The first game saw 15,398 spectators, the second game saw 15,395 visitors. The USSR team was paid $ 80,000, and the NHL team raised $ 350,000 for the league's pension fund. It was the first major meeting between the two teams since the Challenge Cup in 1979 . This comparison was first made at the Summit Series in 1972 .

In the NHL squad were Rod Langway and Doug Wilson, two players who still played without a helmet.
