Yevgeny Vladimirovich Belosheikin ( Russian Евгений Владимирович Белошейкин ; born April 17, 1966 in Sakhalin , Russian SFSR ; † November 18, 1999 in Saint Petersburg , Russia ) was a Russian ice hockey goalkeeper .

Career

During his junior years, Belosheikin played at SKA Leningrad . In 1984 he moved to the Soviet record champions HK CSKA Moscow to replace Vladislav Tretyak . With the army club, Belosheikin was three times in his career USSR champion before he was selected in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft in the eleventh round in 232 of the Edmonton Oilers . He then moved to the Cape Breton Oilers in the American Hockey League in 1991 , where he played three games. For the 1992/93 season he returned to Russia and played for Ischorez Saint Petersburg until 1997 .

In 1999, Belosheikin was found dead after he committed suicide. He was buried in Saint Petersburg .

International

Beloscheikin was appointed to the Soviet national ice hockey team on December 19, 1985 and came on as a substitute for Sergei Mylnikow in the game against Sweden in the 31st minute when the score was 6-0 . The game ended 10: 1 for the USSR. He participated in the 1986 World Championships , where he was voted best goalkeeper, and in 1987 . He won a gold and a silver medal. He was also part of the Soviet squad at the Rendez-vous '87 tournament . His international career was crowned with a gold medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics .
