Sergei Wiktorowitsch Starikow ( Russian Сергей Викторович Стариков ; born December 4, 1958 in Chelyabinsk , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player .

Career

His career began in 1978/79 at HK Traktor Chelyabinsk . The defender played here for one season before moving to the then elite club HK CSKA Moscow . In total, he scored 58 goals in 510 games in the Soviet league . In the 1989 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the 8th round in 152nd place by the New Jersey Devils . So he dared to jump into the National Hockey League before the collapse of the Soviet Union . Over the next several years he played for the New Jersey Devils, Utica Devils ( AHL ) and San Diego Gulls ( IHL ).

He was appointed to the Soviet national ice hockey team at an early age . On September 19, 1978 he was in a game against Czechoslovakia for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Winter Olympics . He and his team had already won the silver medal at the legendary Miracle on Ice at the 1980 Winter Olympics . In 1983 he was inducted into the " Russian Hockey Hall of Fame ".
