Alexei Wassiljewitsch Gussarow ( Russian Алексей Васильевич Гусаров ; born July 8, 1964 in Leningrad , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player (defender), who was most recently assistant coach at HK Sochi . He is a member of the Triple Gold Club , having won the World Championship in 1989 , the Stanley Cup in 1996 and Olympic gold in 1988 .
Career
Gussarow played for SKA Leningrad from 1981 to 1984 . In 1984 he moved to the then top club HK ZSKA Moscow . Here he stayed until 1991. At the NHL Entry Draft in 1988 he was selected in the 11th round in 213rd place by the Québec Nordiques . That is why he dared to jump into the National Hockey League after the collapse of the Soviet Union . In total, he scored 27 goals in 327 games in the Soviet league .
During his career in the NHL, he played for the Québec Nordiques (1990-1995), Colorado Avalanche (1995-2001), New York Rangers (2000/01) and St. Louis Blues (2000/01). He won the Stanley Cup with Colorado in the 1995–96 season .
International
On April 21, 1981 he was in a game against Czechoslovakia for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. On September 9, 1991, he played his last international match for the USSR . His international career was crowned with a gold medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics . In 1988 he was named the Honored Master of Sports of the USSR .
After the collapse of the USSR, he was a member of the Russian national ice hockey team . At the 1998 Winter Olympics , he was able to win the silver medal with this.
After retirement
Between 2011 and 2014 Gussarow worked as an assistant general manager at SKA Saint Petersburg before he was accepted into the coaching staff of HK Sochi for the 2014/15 season . In 2017 he ended this activity.
