Igor Anatoljewitsch Stelnow ( Russian Игорь Анатольевич Стельнов ; born March 12, 1963 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ; † March 24, 2009 in Moscow, Russia ) was a Russian ice hockey player and coach .
Career
During his career, the defender played for HK CSKA Moscow . Only after the collapse of the Soviet Union did he move to Sweden and Italy for one season. In total, he scored 20 goals in 409 games in the Soviet league . He was appointed to the Soviet national ice hockey team at an early age . On August 21, 1981 he was in a game against Czechoslovakia for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Winter Olympics . For the national team, he scored 13 goals in 153 international matches. On April 5, 1990, he played his last international match. In 1984 he was inducted into the " Russian Hockey Hall of Fame ".
Most recently he was assistant coach for the Russian first division club HK MWD Balaschicha before he died on March 24, 2009 at the age of 46 after a serious illness.
His tomb is in the Khovanskoye cemetery .
