David James "Dave" Poulin (born December 17, 1958 in Timmins , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player , coach , functional and scout , who in the course of his active career between 1975 and 1995, among other things, 853 games for the Philadelphia Flyers , Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League on the position of the center . Poulin, who was the seventh team captain in the Philadelphia Flyers franchise history between 1984 and 1990 , received the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 1987 and the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 1993 over 13 seasons in the NHL .
Career
Poulin played quite successfully for the University of Notre Dame , but was not included in the NHL Entry Draft . Instead he moved to Sweden in the 2nd division for Rögle BK . Ted Sator, his coach in Sweden, also acted as a scout for the Philadelphia Flyers and placed him in the NHL at the end of the season.
After two games with two goals in the previous year, he played the entire 1983/84 season in the NHL. In a row with Tim Kerr and Brian Propp he got 76 points and at that time set a best performance for a rookie in the Flyers. However, it was mainly his commitment that soon made him captain of the Flyers team. After seven years in Philadelphia, in which he was awarded the Frank J. Selke Trophy for his strong defensive performance and leadership skills , there were disagreements with the team and they changed the captaincy. During the 1989/90 season , they parted ways and Poulin moved to Boston.
With the Boston Bruins he also reached the Stanley Cup finals immediately , but was defeated there against the Edmonton Oilers . Before the 1993/94 season he moved to the Washington Capitals for two seasons before ending his active career in the summer of 1995 at the age of 36.
After his active career, he coached the University of Notre Dame team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association from 1995 to 2004 . He then worked sporadically as a scout for the Anaheim Ducks until 2009 . He then held the position of Vice President of Hockey Operations at the Toronto Maple Leafs until 2014 . He was also General Manager of the Toronto Marlies farm team in the American Hockey League from 2012 .
