Brian Philip Propp (born February 15, 1959 in Lanigan , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 1176 games for the Philadelphia Flyers , Boston Bruins , Minnesota North Stars and Hartford Whalers in the course of his active career between 1975 and 1994 National Hockey League on the position of the left winger . Propp celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian ice hockey team by winning the Canada Cup in 1987 . In addition, the five-time participant in the NHL All-Star Game won two bronze medals at world championships and won the association selection at the prestigious Spengler Cup .
Career
Propp played in the Western (Canada) Hockey League for the Brandon Wheat Kings during his junior years between 1976 and 1979 . There he played in a row with Laurie Boschman and was top scorer of the league in his second and third year . So it was not surprising that he was selected as 14th by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft .
Immediately for the 1979/80 season he was brought to the NHL and played there in a series with Bobby Clarke and Reggie Leach . The three harmonized perfectly and Propp got 75 points in his rookie season. In his time with the Flyers he reached the finals of the Stanley Cup three times , but his team was beaten every time. Four times in ten years he got more than 90 points scorer. Another highlight was his appearance at the Canada Cup 1984 when he was on the Canadian team in a row with Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux . In the course of his eleventh season with the Flyers he was given to the Boston Bruins, but there he only gave a short guest appearance that again ended with a defeat in the Stanley Cup Finals. For the 1990/91 season he moved to the Minnesota North Stars . Here he came again in the Stanley Cup Finals, but was again defeated.
In the 1992/93 season he started with the North Stars, but after 17 players he moved to Switzerland for HC Lugano . The following year he returned to the NHL. His team were now the Hartford Whalers . Thanks to the return he came to his 1,000 NHL game and reached the 1,000 point mark as the 41st player .
A strike delayed the start of the NHL in the 1994/95 season and he acted as a player-coach at the Anglet Hormadi Elite in France. When the NHL resumed gaming, Propp did not return.
