Career

Player career

After his first season with Clarkson University , Taylor was on both the National Hockey League and the World Hockey Association's list of scouts for the draft, but he was not trusted. In the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft , the Los Angeles Kings only got him in the 15th round as 211th and in the 1975 WHA Amateur Draft , the Houston Eros waited until the eighth round to pull him in 113th. Taylor stayed at Clarkson for two more years, where he still holds the scoring records today. He finished the season in the Central Hockey League with the Fort Worth Texans , to go hunting for goals in the NHL the following season.

With 43 points in his first season 1977/78 Taylor was already more successful than expected, but years followed with 90 to 112 points. In the "Triple Crown Line" Dave Taylor played together with Charlie Simmer and Marcel Dionne and in the 1980/81 season all three managed to book over 100 points. From 1985 Taylor was team captain of the Kings and was replaced by Wayne Gretzky in 1989 . Taylor only played for the Kings until 1994 and was the player who played the most games for the LA team until April 2018, when he was surpassed by Dustin Brown .

International

Internationally, Taylor represented his home country at the 1983 , 1985 and 1986 World Championships . He won the bronze medal in 1983 and 1986, and in 1985 he won the runner-up in the world championship with the Canadian national team and thus the silver medal. In a total of 30 World Cup appearances, Taylor scored 17 points scorer .

Functionary career

In 1997 Taylor took over the post of General Manager at the Kings and held this job until 2006. At the same time, he was also the team's senior vice president of hockey operations . Immediately after the end of his career in 1994, he had already received an official post with the LA Kings and had become assistant to the then General Manager Sam McMaster and Director of Player Development .

After leaving Los Angeles, the Canadian received an offer from the Dallas Stars , where he was Director of Player Personnel between 2007 and 2010 . He also held this post with the St. Louis Blues between 2010 and 2012 , before being promoted to Vice President of Hockey Operations .
