Reginald Alan "Al" MacAdam (born March 16, 1952 in Charlottetown , Prince Edward Island ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and coach who worked for the Philadelphia Flyers , California Golden Seals and Cleveland Barons , Minnesota North Stars and from 1973 to 1985 Vancouver Canucks played in the National Hockey League .

Career

MacAdam played for the college team in his hometown Charlottetown during his junior years. In the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft , the Philadelphia Flyers selected him in the fourth round as 55th. He initially played in the American Hockey League for the Richmond Robins . At the end of the 1973/74 season he came to five missions in the regular season and one in the playoffs. The Flyers won the Stanley Cup that year and MacAdam also received a Stanley Cup ring for it . However, because of the few appearances, his name was not engraved on the trophy. He himself later confirmed that he doesn't feel like a real Stanley Cup winner. In his six missions he remained without a scorer point.

After the season he was given to the California Seals along with other players for Reggie Leach . His good performance there was rewarded with the nomination for the NHL All-Star Game . In the last season of 1976/77 he was the best scorer before Dennis Maruk , the following year he moved with the team, which from then on played as Cleveland Barons . He finished his first year at the new location as the second best scorer of the team behind Maruk. When the Barons failed to pay their salaries, he was one of the players who dared to revolt against the club owners. The team was taken over by the Minnesota North Stars after the 1977/78 season .

For the Canadian national team he entered the Ice Hockey World Championships in 1977 and 1979 and was fourth with the team twice.

In Minnesota, he played his best season in 1979/80 . With 42 goals, 51 assists and 93 points, he set personal bests and was the best scorer of his team. The following season he reached the Stanley Cup Finals with his team, but were subject to the New York Islanders . When the North Stars put on the offensive on the young Brian Bellows , MacAdam was placed in the third row and had mostly defensive tasks there. As a result, his goal yield dropped significantly. For his last season in the NHL, he moved to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Harold Snepsts in 1984/85 . After a year in Vancouver in which he could not meet the expectations placed in him, he was sent to the AHL to Fredericton Express . After eleven games there, he soon ended his active career.

He coached a university team for the next eleven years before taking over the AHL team for St. John's Maple Leafs in 1997 . From 2000 he was part of the Chicago Blackhawks coaching staff for four years . His last coaching position so far were the Halifax Mooseheads in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League . Since then he has worked as a scout for the Buffalo Sabers .
