Donald "Don" Harold Luce (born October 2, 1948 in London , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player (center) and coach who worked for the New York Rangers , Detroit Red Wings , Buffalo Sabers , Los Angeles Kings from 1969 to 1982 and Toronto Maple Leafs played in the National Hockey League .
Career
Luce played with Walt Tkaczuk for the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey Association during his junior years . In the 1966 NHL Amateur Draft , he was selected as 14th in the third round by the New York Rangers .
At the end of his second season with the Omaha Knights in the Central Hockey League , the Rangers brought him into the NHL. After twelve games in this and nine at the beginning of the 1970/71 season , he moved to the Detroit Red Wings . After he did not fit into the long-term concept of the Red Wings, he was given to the Buffalo Sabers for Joe Daley after the end of the season .
In Buffalo he formed the second row of storms together with Craig Ramsay and Danny Gare . He himself was an excellent outnumbered player and defensive attacker. His best season was the 1974/75 season in which he scored 33 goals, eight of which were outnumbered. That year he was also nominated for the NHL All-Star Game . In the following four years he also scored over 60 points. From the 1979/80 season his offensive values subsided and so the Sabers gave him to the Los Angeles Kings at the end of the 1980/81 season . After the end of the season he moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs . There he played 39 games and two with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in the CHL before ending his career.
After a brief period as coach of the Pinebridge Bucks in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League , he returned in the 1986/87 season as an assistant coach to the Buffalo Sabers. After that, he was responsible for player development at the Sabers for almost 20 years. He played a big part in getting players like Martin Biron , Brian Campbell and Jason Pominville started their NHL careers with the Sabers.
After his release from the Sabers in 2006, he took over the role he had previously held in Buffalo, with the Philadelphia Flyers . In September 2015, the Toronto Maple Leafs hired him as a scout .
