Career
Blake was hired as a free agent during the 1998/99 season by the Los Angeles Kings , after he had previously been active at various college clubs, as well as in the USHL junior league with the Waterloo Black Hawks . In addition to appearances in the International Hockey League with the Kings farm team Orlando Solar Bears , the center completed its first and only NHL game this season, but scored its first goal for Los Angeles directly. In the following years he was used in both farm teams and in the NHL.
In January 2001, the left-shooter finally moved to the New York Islanders and quickly became a crowd favorite. During the lockout season 2004/05 Blake played in the Swiss National League A for HC Lugano , after which he returned to the New Yorkers. In the game of the Islanders against the Chicago Blackhawks on October 31, 2006, the left-shooter scored his 100th NHL goal, the good performances in the 2006/07 season finally led to Blake's first NHL All-Star career Game was chosen. Blake played his best season to date, although his performances are judged to be waning towards the end of the season.
After the New York Islanders did not renew his contract in the summer of 2007, he moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs . On October 8, 2007, Jason Blake announced that he had chronic myeloid leukemia , a rather rare but easily treatable form of cancer . According to Blake, he still planned to be on the ice for Toronto throughout the 2007-08 season . A day later, Blake played his first game after being diagnosed with cancer in his Maple Leafs 7-1 against the Carolina Hurricanes . At the end of the season Blake received the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy , which honors the player who is particularly characterized by perseverance, dedication and fairness in and for ice hockey.
On January 31, 2010, it was bartered with Vesa Toskala in exchange for Jean-Sébastien Giguère to the Anaheim Ducks . At the Ducks, Blake established himself as a solid left winger in the second row with Saku Koivu and Teemu Selänne . After the 2011/12 season, the 38-year-old ended his active career.
