Career
The 1.88 m tall defender began his career with AIK Ishockey in the Swedish Elitserien , before he was selected ( drafted ) in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft as 48th in the second round of the New York Rangers .
His time in New York spent the links Sagittarius both the Rangers, for whom he in the 1993/94 season his first NHL bets denied and in their's then AHL - farm team , the Binghamton Rangers . On March 14, 1996 he was finally transferred to the Los Angeles Kings together with Nathan LaFayette , Ian Laperrière , Ray Ferraro and a draft pick in exchange for Marty McSorley , Jari Kurri and Shane Churla .
In Los Angeles, Norström quickly made the leap into the NHL squad due to his solid performance, and on October 1, 2001, he even rose to team captaincy after teammate Rob Blake had switched to the Colorado Avalanche .

During the NHL lockout in the 2004/05 season , he returned to his hometown club AIK. Since the AIK now played in Division 1 , Norström waived any salary to help his hometown club to rise. In the Kvalserien, the club finally made it to the HockeyAllsvenskan .
When Rob Blake returned to the Kings on July 1, 2006, Norström wanted to give him back the role of captain, but Blake declined on the grounds that the Swede was the true captain and "heart and soul" of the team. On February 27, 2007, Norström moved together with Konstantin Pushkarev and two draft picks in exchange for Jaroslav Modrý , Johan Fransson and three draft picks to the Dallas Stars, where he finally announced in June 2008 that he would end his active ice hockey career.
At the 2010 Olympic Games , Norström was assistant coach at Tre Kronor . Since 2011 he has been a member of the Board of Directors of AIK Stockholm . In the 2013/14 season he also acted as an assistant coach from the middle of the season.
