Johan Fransson (born February 18, 1985 in Kalix ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Leksands IF in the Svenska Hockeyligan since April 2019 .
Career
Johan Fransson began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with Kalix HF , for whom he made his Division 1 debut in the 2000/01 season . Then the defender moved to the junior division of Luleå HF , for which he was active in the Elitserien from 2002 to 2006 . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the second round as a total of 34th player by the Dallas Stars , for which he never played. In the summer of 2006, the left shooter signed a contract with their league rivals Frölunda HC , where he ended the season with Ässät Pori from the Finnish SM-liiga and the Swedish first division club Linköpings HC . With Linköpings Fransson was runner-up in 2007 and 2008 and qualified for the newly founded Champions Hockey League , in which he was on the ice in all four group games of his team in the 2008/09 season . He scored a goal. However, the playing time he finished the HC Lugano in the Swiss National League A .
After his second stop in other European countries, Fransson signed a contract with his ex-club Luleå HF in summer 2009. In June he got a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings , but did not make it into the NHL squad and should play for the Manchester Monarchs in the American Hockey League . In mid-October 2010 Fransson was signed by SKA Saint Petersburg from the Continental Hockey League . For the Russians he scored six goals and twelve assists in a total of 49 games. He then returned to his home club Luleå HF for the 2011/12 season.
Shortly before the start of the season at the beginning of September 2014, his move to the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the highest Swiss league became known. Fransson signed a one-year contract with an option for a second season. However, he moved to league rivals Genève-Servette HC after the first season . There he played for four seasons before returning to his home country for the 2019/20 season. Fransson signed a four-year contract with Leksands IF .
International
For Sweden , Fransson took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 2004 and 2005 .
At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki , Fransson was part of the men's national team and won the gold medal with it.
