Career
Only after Ferraro was selected in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft by the Hartford Whalers in the fifth round as 88th, he went to the Western Hockey League for the Portland Winter Hawks . After a good season he moved within the league to the Brandon Wheat Kings , where he achieved a remarkable 108 goals and 192 points scorer .
The Whalers brought him into their squad for the 1984/85 season . This season he was still commuting between the farm team and the NHL. A year later he was fully in the NHL and helped Hartford to move back into the finals after five years of playoff abstinence with 77 points in 76 games. He was one of the pillars of the team for four more years before he was handed over to the New York Islanders shortly after the beginning of the 1990/91 season . The second of the five years with the Islanders was his best season, in which he got 80 scorer points with 40 goals and assists each. The following year he missed half the season due to injury.
For the 1995/96 season he moved within New York to the Rangers, but at the trade deadline shortly before the end of the season he left Manhattan and went to the Los Angeles Kings . Three mediocre years in LA were followed by three successful years with the Atlanta Thrashers , who were newly inducted into the NHL. Here he was also the captain in his last season. Late in the 2001/02 season he was given to the St. Louis Blues . After the end of the season, he ended his active career at the age of 37.
