Career

Player career

Shawn McEachern began his active career with the Matignon Warriors , the ice hockey team at Matignon High School , in Cambridge , Massachusetts , for which he was active from 1985 to 1988. During this time, the attacker was selected in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round at a total of 110th position by the Pittsburgh Penguins . After graduating from high school in 1988, McEachern began studying at Boston University and also ran for their ice hockey team, the Boston University Terriers , in Hockey East . In the 1990/91 season he won the Hockey East championship with the team and was given various awards for his convincing performance. McEachern received an appointment to the All-Star Team and was named as the best player as the most valuable player . During the 1991/92 season he made the jump into the NHL squad of the Pittsburgh Penguins. After victories over the Washington Capitals , New York Rangers and Boston Bruins , he won the final series of the Stanley Cup against the Chicago Blackhawks in four games with the Penguins and secured the trophy with the team.

In the following season, the offensive player earned himself a regular place in the Penguins team and completed all 84 games of the regular season , in which he scored 61 points . The team failed in the play-offs in the second round in seven games against the New York Islanders . On August 27, 1993 McEachern was given in an exchange deal with the Los Angeles Kings . In return, the enforcer Marty McSorley went to Pittsburgh. After he had completed 49 games for the Kings and scored 21 points, the left-shot was sent again to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the same season. After another year in the service of the Penguins, another swap followed, as a result of which the attacker was ordered to the Boston Bruins on August 2, 1995 . In his only season for the Bruins, the offensive player was able to increase his points yield again and book 56 points in a total of 87 NHL games.

But it didn't last long in Boston either, and the Bruins gave it to the Ottawa Senators in June 1996 . In the following six years, McEachern was a regular among the Senators' best scorers and for years played in a row with Marián Hossa , Daniel Alfredsson and Alexei Jashin . In June 2002 McEachern was transferred to the Atlanta Thrashers along with a six- round suffrage for the 2004 Entry Draft , in exchange Brian Pothier went to Ottawa. In the 2003 calendar year he was named team captain of the Thrashers and held this position for more than a year. After the 2004/05 season was canceled due to the lockout , the attacker initially remained without engagement. In January 2005 he signed with the Swedish club Malmö Redhawks , for which he completed 16 games. In August 2005, he joined the Boston Bruins as a free agent . The left shooter was sent to their farm team , the Providence Bruins , in the American Hockey League during the season . After ten missions for the Providence Bruins in the AHL, he ended his active career following this season.
