Andrew Locklan Ladd (born December 12, 1985 in Maple Ridge , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League since July 2016 and also for their farm team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the American Hockey League is used. The left winger was selected in fourth position in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes , with whom he won his first Stanley Cup in 2006. He then moved to the Chicago Blackhawks , with whom the second Stanley Cup followed in 2010 , before he was active for almost five years for the Winnipeg Jets and led the team as the first team captain in team history.
Career
Andrew Ladd began his career as a hockey player in the 2001/02 season with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League . The following season he played with the Coquitlam Express from the British Columbia Hockey League . In the period from 2003 to 2005, the Canadian was in the squad of the Calgary Hitmen from the WHL. During the 2004 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected as the fourth player in the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes . In the summer of 2005 Ladd received a place in the squad of Carolina's farm team at the time from the American Hockey League , the Lowell Lock Monsters , for which he was active for the first time in professional ice hockey. In the same season he made his debut in the National Hockey League and won the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in his first season .
On February 26, 2008, the attacker was given in exchange for Tuomo Ruutu to the Chicago Blackhawks . By the end of the season he was used in 20 games for the Blackhawks and in two games for their farm team from the AHL, the Albany River Rats . In the 2009/10 season he also won the Stanley Cup with Chicago. On July 1, 2010, Ladd was given to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for Iwan Wischnewski and a second-round vote in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in order to counteract exceeding the salary cap . There he set new personal bests in the 2010/11 season with 29 goals and 59 points in the regular season and ended this season as the best scorer of the Thrashers, who once again missed participation in the playoffs.
After the franchise was relocated to Winnipeg , Canada at the end of the season , the attacker's contract expired on July 1, 2011 and Ladd became a restricted free agent . As a limited free player, there was the possibility that an offer from another team would be made to him on the basis of a so-called offer sheet . This did not happen, however, and on July 5, 2011, the team captain of the Winnipeg Jets agreed on a new contract with the Jets for five years worth around 22 million US dollars.
Ladd subsequently served as the Jets' captain for five years before returning to the Chicago Blackhawks in February 2016 as part of a major swap deal. In addition to Ladd, the Blackhawks received Jay Harrison and Matt Fraser and in return gave Marko Daňo and a first-round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft to the Jets; In addition, the Jets are to receive an additional third-round vote for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft if Chicago wins the 2016 Stanley Cup. Furthermore, Ladd left the Jets as the top scorer in franchise history to date (110).
With the Blackhawks Ladd ended the 2015/16 season, but received no new contract beyond. As a free agent , he therefore joined the New York Islanders in July 2016 , who provided him with a seven-year contract that should bring him $ 5.5 million a year.
At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, however, Ladd lost his regular place with the Islanders and has since been regularly used by their AHL farm team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers .
