Career

Shawn Chambers began his career as a hockey player in the team of the University of Alaska Fairbanks , for which he was active from 1985 to the middle of the 1986/87 season. This season he finished with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Canadian Junior League Western Hockey League and the Fort Wayne Komets from the International Hockey League . He also made his professional ice hockey debut for the Komets. Subsequently, the defender was selected in the 1987 NHL Supplemental Draft as the eighth player by the Minnesota North Stars . For the North Stars he played in the National Hockey League for the next four years , where he ran parallel for their IHL farm team , the Kalamazoo Wings . In the 1990/91 season he failed with the North Stars in the finals for the prestigious Stanley Cup in the best-of-seven series with 2-4 at the Pittsburgh Penguins .

In the 1991/92 season Chambers was only able to play a total of seven games for his new club, the Washington Capitals from the NHL, and their farm team, the Baltimore Skipjacks from the American Hockey League , due to a serious knee injury . In the 1992 NHL Expansion Draft , he was selected as the seventh player by the Tampa Bay Lightning . After he had started the 1992/93 season with their IHL farm team Atlanta Knights , he was the next three years for the team from Florida in the NHL on the ice. On March 14, 1995, the left shooter was given together with Danton Cole in exchange for Alexander Semak and Ben Hankinson to the New Jersey Devils , with whom he won the Stanley Cup for the first time at the end of the season.

On July 17, 1997, Chambers signed as a free agent a contract with the Dallas Stars , the successor team to his ex-club Minnesota North Stars. With the Texans he succeeded in the 1998/99 season after a final victory over the Buffalo Sabers, the second Stanley Cup victory of his career. After suffering a knee injury after just a few match days and only being able to play four games, the American ended his career at the age of 33 after the 1999/2000 season .
