Main round

mode

The 28 teams of the Superliga first played in the main round in a western and an eastern conference with 14 teams each, each team playing 26 season games. The top ten teams from each conference eventually qualified for the final round, in which the champions were played. The results from the two conferences were adopted. The 16 best-placed teams in the final round also qualified for the subsequent cup competition. The last four of each conference had to play against the four best second division teams in a two-legged game to stay in the league, with the top two of the relegation being allowed to take part in the Superliga in the following year. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
