Dmitri Wladimirowitsch Popow ( Russian Дмитрий Владимирович Попов ; born October 22, 1966 in Sverdlovsk , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player who played for HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Russian super league from 1989 to 2003 .

Career

Dmitri Popov began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with Avtomobilist Sverdlovsk , for which he was active in the Russian Super League from 1986 to 1992 . Even after the city was renamed Yekaterinburg , the attacker stayed with the Avtomobilists for another three years. After a year break he received a contract with HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the summer of 1996 , with whom he became Russian runner-up and cup winner in the 1997/98 season. In addition, he won the European Hockey League with his team in 1999 and 2000 and was champion with Metallurg in the 1998/99 season .

The 2000/01 season Popow spent in the super league at HK Avangard Omsk , as well as at Severstal Tscherepowez , where he was runner-up with Avangard Omsk for the second time in his career. The left-handed shooter finally ended his career with Chimik Woskressensk , for whom he was on the ice from 2001 to 2003 in the second-rate Vysschaya League .
