Valery Konstantinowitsch Belousov ( Russian Валерий Константинович Белоусов ; born December 17, 1948 in Novouralsk , Russian SFSR ; † April 16, 2015 ) was a Soviet ice hockey player and Russian ice hockey coach. Most recently he was head coach at HK Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Continental Hockey League between October 2010 and 2014 .

Career

Valery Belousov ran as a hockey player from 1975 to 1981 for the HK tractor Chelyabinsk in the highest Soviet league. He then moved to his league rivals Kristall Saratow , with whom he played in the second division after relegation in 1982 until his career ended following the 1987/88 season at the age of 40.

From 1990 to 1995 he worked as a trainer for the Chelyabinsk tractor. In the summer of 1995, Belousov took over the coaching position at HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk from the Russian Super League , which up to this point could not win a title either nationally or internationally. This led the Russian to win the championship in 1999 and 2001 , and at the European level in 1999 and 2000 to win the European Hockey League . In the 1997/98 season, the former Soviet international was also with Magnitogorsk in the championship finals, but was subject to the opponent Ak Bars Kazan . In the same season he and his team won the cup.

For the 2003/04 season Belousov signed a contract with HK Awangard Omsk , with which he was victorious in the playoff final against his ex-club from Magnitogorsk. As Russian champion, he took part with the team in January 2005 in the IIHF European Champions Cup , which was held for the first time and which the team won with ease. Since the 2008/09 season , the successful coach was back at Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Continental Hockey League behind the gang. After fifteen years, he returned to the Chelyabinsk Tractor as head coach in October 2010 and was in charge of it until the end of the 2013/14 season.

International

For the Soviet Union Belousov took in 1976 at the first edition of the Canada Cup in part, in which he finished in third place with his team.
