Andrei Pawlowitsch Sokolow ( Russian Андрей Павлович Соколов ; born January 22, 1968 in Ust-Kamenogorsk , Kazakh SSR ) is a former Kazakh ice hockey player who, among other things, was Russian champion with HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk during his active time from 1987 to 2005 . Since the end of his career he has worked as a trainer. His son Konstantin is also a hockey player.
Career
Andrei Sokolow began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk , for whose professional team he made his debut in the top Soviet division in the 1987/88 season. The following season the defender spent in the second team of HK Sibir Novosibirsk , before he spent another five years at Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk. During the 1993/94 season he also played three games for the Detroit Falcons from the Colonial Hockey League . In the summer of 1994 the Kazakh was committed by HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk from the Russian Super League .
With Magnitogorsk he won the European Hockey League in 1999 and 2000, respectively . He was in 1999 and 2001. In addition, Champion , and 1998 Cup winner with Metallurg. In 1998 and 2004, the left shooter failed only in the playoff final with the Russians. Following the 2004/05 season, he ended his career at the age of 37.
From 2006 he worked as a trainer at Metallurg Magnitogorsk. During the 2011/12 season he moved to Metallurg Novokuznetsk , where he was assistant coach. He also looked after the Kazakh national team as an assistant coach. He then worked as an assistant coach at Ak Bars Kazan from 2012 to 2016 before moving to HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk in the same position . In September 2016 he was promoted to head coach of Ugra, before Andrei Rasin, a new head coach and new coaching staff, was introduced in December and Sokolow became unemployed.
Between 2017 and 2019 Sokolow was an assistant trainer at HK Tractor Chelyabinsk , after which he was employed in the same position at Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg .
International
For Kazakhstan Sokolow took part in the C world championships in 1993 and 1994 , as well as the B world championship in 2003 . In addition, he was in Kazakhstan's squad at the 2005 World Cup and at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano .
