Alexander Yevgenyevich Kharitonov ( Russian Александр Евгеньевич Харитонов ; born March 30, 1976 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player who was active in the Superleague with HK Dynamo Moscow and a total of 71 NHL games for the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Islanders graduated.
Career
Alexander Kharitonov began his career with Vyatich Ryazan in the Russian third division before moving to HK Dynamo Moscow in 1994 and playing for the latter's second team. In the season 1994/95 he also made his debut in the International Hockey League , the predecessor of today's Russian Super League . In the following season he completed a few games for the second team Dynamos and was later loaned to HK Lipetsk , where he scored 52 points in 64 games. For the 1996/97 season he returned to Moscow and played from then on in the professional team of Dynamo. In the NHL Entry Draft 2000 , the Tampa Bay Lightning was selected in the third round in 81st place and moved a short time later to North America. In his first NHL season he completed 66 games for Tampa Bay, in which he could achieve seven goals and 15 assists. In the summer of 2001 , he and Adrian Aucoin were given to the New York Islanders , who in return gave Mathieu Biron and a second-round draft pick to Tampa Bay.
After five NHL games for the Islanders, he was sent to the farm team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the AHL . Shortly afterwards he returned to Russia and signed a contract with HK Awangard Omsk . In the summer of 2003 he was signed by Dynamo Moscow, where he played until the end of the 2007/08 season. Then he was under contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod for a year before moving to HK Sibir Novosibirsk just before the start of the 2009/10 season.
International
Before the men's ice hockey world championship in 2000, Alexander Kharitonov was called up for the first time for a major tournament in the Russian national team. Further World Cup participations followed in 2001 , 2005 (bronze medal won), 2006 and 2007 (bronze medal won). He also took part in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.
