Mathieu Biron (born April 29, 1980 in Lac-Saint-Charles , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player , who in his active career for the New York Islanders , Tampa Bay Lightning , Florida Panthers and Washington Capitals from the National Hockey League as well as the Frankfurt Lions and Hamburg Freezers from the German Ice Hockey League .
After retiring as a professional ice hockey player, Biron became a firefighter in Québec .
Career
Biron played in his junior years for the Cataractes de Shawinigan from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League , on June 27, 1998 he was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft in 21st place. The Kings exchanged the Canadian, before he had even played a game for them, on June 19, 1999 along with Olli Jokinen , Josh Green and a first-round suffrage in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft against Žigmund Pálffy , Bryan Smolinski , Marcel Cousineau and a four-round - Suffrage in the same draft as the New York Islanders .
The defender , however, could not prevail with the Islanders and was a second-round draft law to the Tampa Bay Lightning , which in return Adrian Aucoin on the NHL Waiver Draft to the Columbus Blue Jackets that it immediately against Petr Tenkrát by the Florida Panthers bartered . After the lockout in the 2004/05 season , Biron signed a one-year contract with the Washington Capitals and moved to the San Jose Sharks after a season , where he was only on the ice for the farm team, the Worcester Sharks , in the American Hockey League was standing. During the season, the Canadian was swapped by the Sharks for Patrick Traverse to the Montreal Canadiens , but was only used in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs . With the team, Biron was able to celebrate winning the Calder Cup at the end of the 2006/07 season .
After another year with the Bulldogs, the defender signed a contract with the Frankfurt Lions from the German Ice Hockey League for the 2008/09 season . For the 2009/2010 season he moved within the league to the Hamburg Freezers, for whom he played until the end of the season. Then he was initially unemployed before he received a contract with Thetford Mines Isothermic from Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey in mid-December 2010 . After he had finished with the sport of ice hockey in 2012, he was in Lévis (province of Quebec ) fireman.
Mathieu is the younger brother of Martin Biron , who played in the NHL for 16 seasons.
