The Cistercian monastery Perseigne is located in the far north of the Sarthe department on the edge of the Forêt de Perseigne and the Normandy-Maine Regional Nature Park , just a few kilometers from Alençon . Geographically, the ruins of the abbey today belong to the municipality of Neufchâtel-en-Saosnois .
It was founded from Cîteaux in the middle of the 12th century . Wilhelm III had the site . Talvas , Count of Alençon , made available. The monastery was closed in 1791. Today only a few of the walls remain.
