The Spengler Cup 2004 ( French Coupe Spengler 2004 ) was the 78th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26 to 31, 2004 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue . A total of 80,524 spectators attended the eleven tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 7,320 per game.

It was won by the host HC Davos , who won the tournament by beating HC Sparta Prague 2-0 in the final . Already in the qualification the Swiss had won the game 6-4. The hosts benefited primarily from their numerous obligations from players from the National Hockey League , as the season there fell victim to a lockout . So were Joe Thornton , Rick Nash , Martin St. Louis and Niklas Hagman in the Davos squad. A total of 18 NHL players took part in the tournament. It was the 13th title win for the HCD and the third in the last five years.

The Canadian Rick Nash in the service of HC Davos was the most successful player in the tournament with seven points , including four goals. The Russian Sergei Gonchar from HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk was named the most valuable player .

mode

The five participating teams initially played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The two teams with the best points after completing the ten qualifying games finally determined the tournament winner in an additional game.
