The Spengler Cup 2016 ( French Coupe Spengler 2016 ) was the 90th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 2016 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The local Vaillant Arena acted as the venue . A total of 68,686 spectators attended the eleven tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 6,244 per game.

It was won again by Team Canada , which won the tournament with a 5-2 victory in the final in the new edition of the previous year's final over HC Lugano . For Team Canada, which repeated the previous year's success, it was the 14th title win at the Spengler Cup since 1984 and the third in the last five years.

The Canadian Andrew Ebbett was the most successful player in the tournament with eight points , including four goals.

mode

The six participating teams initially played in two preliminary round groups - named after the Davos ice hockey legends Richard Torriani and the Cattini brothers Ferdinand and Hans - three teams each in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team initially played two games Placements based on points. The two group winners qualified directly for the semifinals, while the second and third placed in a knockout duel played off the other two semifinals.
