Andris Džeriņš (born February 14, 1988 in Jēkabpils , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian ice hockey player who has been playing for Dinamo Riga in the Continental Hockey League again since June 2018 . His brother Guntis is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Andris Džeriņš began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of LB / Riga before moving to the city neighbor HK Riga 2000 for the 2004/05 season. For this he was used in parallel in the Latvian U18 league as well as for their professional team in the Latvian ice hockey league and the Belarusian extra league and was with Riga in 2005 for the first time in his career Latvian champions . The next two years the junior international spent in the youth departments of Stocksunds IF in Sweden and Lukko Rauma in Finland. Then the center went for two seasons to the Kingston Frontenacs from the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League , who had drawn him in the first round of the 2007 CHL Import Draft as the 26th player.

In Kingston Džeriņš was able to draw attention to himself with 98 points in 126 games, so that he was selected by Dinamo Riga from his Latvian homeland in the fourth round in the fourth round in the KHL Junior Draft . In the 2009/10 season , the left shooter was in 17 games for Dinamo in the Continental Hockey League on the ice, in which he remained pointless and punished. At the same time he took part in the game operations of the Belarusian extra league with Dinamo's farm team Dinamo Juniors Riga . In the spring of 2013 he won with Dinamo the Nadezhda Cup , the trophy of that Refrigerating repechage . He was the best assists in the league with ten assists.

After six years at Dinamo, he did not get a new contract in the summer of 2016 and moved to Mountfield HK ( Hradec Králové ) in the Czech extra league, where he finished third in the championship at the end of his first season. He also took part with the club in the Spengler Cup in 2016 and 2017 and in the Champions Hockey League 2017/18 .

In June 2018 he returned to Dinamo and completed his KHL season with the best personal points with 11 goals and 12 assists.

International

For Latvia, Džeriņš participated in the junior division at the U18 World Championships in Division I in 2005 and 2006 , when as top scorer, top scorer and best striker he made a significant contribution to the Latvians' promotion to the top division, as well as in the U20 World Championships in Division I in 2007 when he was the tournament's top scorer, and participated in 2008 .

In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016 , 2017 and 2018 World Championships . He also represented his home country in qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , where the Latvian team failed to qualify.
