Career
Edgars Masaļskis began his career as an ice hockey goalkeeper in his Latvian homeland, where he initially worked for HK Lido Nafta Riga and HK Riga from 1996 to 1998 . He then worked for four years at HK Liepājas Metalurgs , with whom he was Latvian champion in 2000 and 2002 . In the 2002/03 season Masaļskis played abroad for the first time, where he played for HK Sibir Novosibirsk from the Russian Super League , as well as Mörrum GoIS from the Swedish Allsvenskan . In addition, the Latvian was again under contract with HK Liepājas Metalurgs in his home country. In the 2003/04 season Masaļskis was with HK Riga 2000 for the third time in his career Latvian champions.
A turbulent season followed in which the Latvian stood on the ice in the Czech Republic for HC Energie Karlovy Vary , HC Dukla Jihlava and IHC Písek . After a year with Neftjanik Almetjewsk in the second Russian ice hockey league, the goalkeeper moved to Belarus in 2006/07 , where he was active for HK Minsk and HK Junost Minsk . In addition, Masaļskis played 16 times in the ice hockey league for the Wölfe Freiburg .
After another season in the Belarusian extra league at Metallurg Shlobin , he moved to Dinamo Riga from the newly founded KHL in 2008 . He was injured in a robbery in September 2008 and was later suspended from his club. Therefore, Masaļskis moved in January 2009 to the financially troubled Füchsen Duisburg in the German Ice Hockey League . After the Duisburg Club was dissolved, he returned to Dinamo Riga.
On January 7, 2010 he scored his first goal in the KHL against Amur Khabarovsk , when their goalkeeper Tyler Moss left the gate, but the puck tumbled into this.
In June 2010 Masaļskis moved within the KHL to HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk , for which he was active in the KHL for three years and showed good to very good performances. He spent the second half of the 2013/14 season at HK ŠKP Poprad and was one of the statistically best keepers in the Slovak Extra League. In July 2014 he finally returned to Dinamo Riga, but was unable to build on previous achievements and was dismissed in December of the same year. Since January 2015 he has been under contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta from the National League A and replaces the injured Sandro Zurkirchen and Michael Flückiger there .
Between August 2015 and the end of the 2016/17 season, Masaļskis was then under contract with HK Lada Tolyatti from the Continental Hockey League and played 53 KHL games for the club. He then ended his career and became an assistant coach at Dinamo Riga in September 2017.
