Colton Gillies (born February 12, 1989 in White Rock , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Dinamo Riga in the Continental Hockey League since July 2016 .
Career
Colton Gillies began his career as a hockey player with the Saskatoon Blades , for which he was active in the Western Hockey League from 2004 to 2008 . During this time he was selected in the first round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft as the 16th player of the Minnesota Wild . For their farm team , the Houston Eros from the American Hockey League , he scored eight scorer points, including one goal, in eleven regular season games in the 2007/08 season . He was also used in five playoff games. In the following season, the attacker made his debut in the National Hockey League for Minnesota, when he scored a total of seven scorer points, including two goals, in 45 games.
On January 14, 2012, the left shooter on the waiver list was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets .
Between 2013 and 2015 he played exclusively in the AHl for Rochester Americans and Bridgeport Sound Tigers before he moved to Europe for the first time during the 2015/16 season and was signed by HC 05 Banská Bystrica from the Slovakian Extraliga . In July 2016 he moved to the Continental Hockey League at Dinamo Riga , where he extended his contract in June 2017.
International
For Canada , Gillies took part in the 2007 U18 World Junior Championship and the 2008 U20 World Junior Championship . He also represented his home country at the 2007 Super Series .
