Oskars Bārtulis (born January 21, 1987 in Ogre , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian ice hockey player who has been playing for Dinamo Riga in the Continental Hockey League since October 2019 .

Career

Oskars Bārtulis began his career as a hockey player at Prizma '83 Riga , for which he was active from 2001 to 2003 in the Latvian Ice Hockey League and Division B of the East European Hockey League . The 2002/03 season, however, ended the defender at Vilki Riga in the Latvian ice hockey league .

For the 2003/04 season he received a contract with HK CSKA Moscow , but was only used for its second team in the Pervaya League , the third Russian division. The left shooter then moved to the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , in which he was on the ice from 2004 to 2007 for the Moncton Wildcats and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles . With the Moncton Wildcats he won the Coupe du Président in the 2005/06 season .

In the summer of 2007, Bārtulis was divided into the roster of their farm team by the Philadelphia Flyers , who had already selected him in the NHL Entry Draft 2005 in the third round as the 91st player . After he played exclusively for the Philadelphia Phantoms in the American Hockey League in the following two years , he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Flyers in the 2009/10 season after spending the season with their new AHL farm team Adirondack Phantoms had started. After another nine NHL games, Bārtulis received a contract extension for three years with the Flyers in early December 2009.

In late June 2012, the Flyers bought out of the current contract with Bārtulis after he had played exclusively for the Phantoms in the AHL in the 2011/12 season.

Between 2012 and 2014 Bārtulis was under contract with HK Donbass Donetsk in the Continental Hockey League and was one of the team's most consistent defenders. During this time he also won the IIHF Continental Cup with Donbass . After the 2013/14 season, the club withdrew from the game due to the crisis in Ukraine and Bārtulis was initially without a contract before he was signed by Barys Astana in mid-September 2014 .

Between 2015 and December 2017, Bārtulis was part of Admiral Vladivostok's squad, where he held the position of team captain, before being handed over to Salawat Yulayev Ufa in December 2017 .

In the 2018/19 season he was initially unemployed before he was signed by Kunlun Red Star from the KHL in November 2018 and played 15 games for the Chinese club by the end of the main round. He returned to Latvia in summer 2019 and has been playing for Dinamo Riga since October 2019 .

International

For Latvia , Bārtulis took part in the U18 Junior B World Championships in 2003 and 2004 and the U20 Junior B World Championships in 2004 , 2005 and 2007 . He was also part of the Latvian squad at the U20 Junior World Championship in 2006 and the World Championships in 2005 and 2009 .
