Vitālijs Pavlovs (born June 17, 1989 in Riga , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Dinamo Riga in the Continental Hockey League since October 2015 .

Career

Vitālijs Pavlovs began his career at SK Riga , for whose U20 team he played in the Latvian ice hockey league from 2007 . In the following season he was active for DHK Latgale both in the Belarusian extra league, as well as in the Latvian ice hockey league. Between 2009 and 2011 he was then under contract with HK Liepājas Metalurgs , for which he also appeared in the Extraliga. At the same time, he won the Latvian championship with the club's second team in 2011 .

Before the 2011/12 season Pavlovs moved to the Kazakh ice hockey championship for HK Beibarys Atyrau , with whom he won the Kazakh championship at the end of the season.

On August 9, 2012 he received a two-year contract from Dinamo Riga and made his debut on December 5, 2012 in the Continental Hockey League against HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk , after he had started the season with cooperation partner Jokipojat from the Mestis . In 2013 he won the Nadezhda Cup with Dinamo . Because of his one and a half year doping ban, he spent the 2014/15 season with the Colorado Eagles in the ECHL , which is not subject to the jurisdiction of the International Ice Hockey Federation . He then returned to Dinamo Riga in the KHL.

International

Pavlovs first played for the Latvian youth at the 2007 U18 World Cup . With the U20 selection of the Balts, he took part in the U20 World Cup in 2008 in Division I, where he was promoted to the top division, in which he then competed a year later .

He played with the Latvian men's national team at the 2013 , 2016 and 2017 World Championships . After Pavlovs prevailed with the Latvian team in the Olympic qualification for the 2014 Winter Games , he also took part in the Winter Games in Sochi as part of the Latvian national team. On February 22, 2014, it was announced that he tested positive for methylhexanamine and was subsequently banned from the games. The Disciplinary Committee of the International Ice Hockey Federation then banned him for one and a half years from all events of the IIHF and IIHF member associations, which meant he missed the 2014 and 2015 World Championships. He also took part in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 , but failed with the team from the Baltic States at the home tournament in Riga in September 2016 against the German team . He also represented his colors at the Baltic Cup 2017.
