Konstantin Komarek (born November 8, 1992 in Vienna ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) since August 2020 and plays there in the position of right winger .

Career

Komarek began his career in his hometown of Vienna, where he made his debut in the second division at the age of 14. After two seasons in the second division and in the U20 league, he moved to Luleå HF in Sweden in 2008 . There he scored 18 points in 18 games in the Swedish J18 Elit. The second season was also successful. Komarek was able to establish himself in the Luleå U20 team.

In November 2010, Komarek made his debut in the Elitserien . In spring 2011 he was listed in the final ranking for the NHL Entry Draft in 55th place among European outfield players. After a total of 64 games in the Elitserien, the striker returned to Austria in summer 2012, where he signed a contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg . There he was able to assert himself immediately and completed a total of 116 games in the Austrian ice hockey league in his first two seasons .

On January 31, 2016, with three goals in 122 seconds against Orli Znojmo , he scored the fastest hat-trick in the EBEL's league history and improved a 3: 7 deficit to the later final score of 6: 7. In his four years in Salzburg he was twice (2015 and 2016) champion of the Austrian ice hockey league . In 2014 he was second in the league with Salzburg, as they were defeated in the final with HC Bozen to a foreign member of the league, but Salzburg was Austrian champion.

In April 2016, the Swedish first division team Malmö Redhawks Komarek announced. Komarek stayed there for a season before spending the 2017/18 season at league rivals Karlskrona HK . Then the Austrian returned to Malmö. His second engagement with the Redhawks lasted until January 2020. Then he switched to Luleå HF . In August 2020 Komarek joined the Latvian club Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League (KHL).

International

Komarek played for Austria as a junior. He took part in the U18 World Championships in Division I in 2008 , 2009 and 2010 as well as in the U20 World Championships in 2010 (in the top division), 2011 and 2012 (both in Division I). At the U20 World Cup in 2010 he was the second youngest player in the tournament.

For the men's national team , he was on the ice for the first time in the international match against Latvia on April 13, 2011 in Innsbruck . He made his World Cup debut at the Division I tournament in 2014 , when he and his team were promoted to the top division. There he played with the Alpine nationals at the 2015 World Cup . After relegation, he played again in Division I in 2016 and 2017 , when he was second-best scorer and scorer and second-best preparer behind Kazak Nigel Dawes (together with Kazak Brandon Bochenski behind his compatriot Martin Schumnig ). In addition, he was in 2017 in elected the All-Star-Team and together with his compatriot Dominique Heinrich had the best plus / minus balance of the tournament.
