Artis Ābols (born January 3, 1973 in Riga , Latvian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Latvian ice hockey player . He has been working as a coach since the end of his career and has been assistant coach at Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League again since 2018 .
Career
Artis Ābols began his career in 1991 at RASMS Riga, but moved to Pārdaugava Riga during the 1991/92 season . For this club he was active in the International Hockey League (MHL) until 1996 .
Between 1996 and 2004 he played in Scandinavia, among others for Nittorps IK , Odense IK , Nyköpings Hockey 90 and Vojens IK .
Between 2004 and 2008 Ābols played for HK Riga 2000 in both the Latvian championship and the Belarusian extra league . He was four times Latvian champion with the club. In 2008 he started his coaching career as assistant coach at Dinamo Riga and played at the same time at the semi-professional HK Kurbads from the second Latvian league. During the 2010/11 season he completed his first appearances for HK Ozolnieki / Monarhs from the first Latvian league, before he switched to this club entirely in the summer of 2011.
In November 2012 he was promoted from assistant to head coach at Dinamo and then ended his playing career following the 2012/13 season.
For the 2015/16 season he moved within the Continental Hockey League to HK Lada Tolyatti , where he initially worked as an assistant coach. In the middle of the 2015/16 season he was promoted to head coach and led the team until the end of the 2017/18 season. Subsequently, Lada Tolyatti was excluded from the KHL and Ābols returned to Dinamo Riga.

- 1997 top scorer in Division 2, Group A South
- 2004–2007: four-time Latvian champion with the HK Riga 2000
