Robert "Rob" Klinkhammer (* 12. August 1986 in Lethbridge , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who since July 2020 when HC Dinamo Minsk of the Continental Hockey League is (KHL) under contract and there on the position of left winger plays . Previously, Klinkhammer was with the Edmonton Oilers , Pittsburgh Penguins , Arizona Coyotes , Ottawa Senators and Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Career
In the 2006/07 season , his last in the Junior Western Hockey League , Klinkhammer first played a game with the Seattle Thunderbirds . He then moved to the Portland Winterhawks and finally to the Brandon Wheat Kings . In 66 games that the attacker played this season, he scored 33 goals and 40 assists. In the play-offs, he reached the semifinals of the Eastern Conference with Brandon, scoring four more goals and four assists.
For the 2007/08 season , the Canadian moved to the Norfolk Admirals and played his first professional season in the American Hockey League . On October 19, 2007 he succeeded in his professional debut against the Binghamton Senators an assist. His first goal as a professional he scored on November 23, 2007 against the Springfield Falcons . In March 2008, he scored a goal in six games in a row. He scored a total of twelve goals and twelve assists in 66 games. 8 June 2008 signed Klinkhammer a contract for two years as a free agent with the Rockford IceHogs , the farm team of the Chicago Blackhawks . Due to an injury to the right winger of the Blackhawks, Patrick Kane , he made his debut on December 10, 2010 in the home game against the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League . It was his only game in the 2010-11 NHL season .
After more than three years with the Rockford IceHogs, where the striker scored 44 goals in 242 games and prepared another 65, Klinkhammer moved to the Ottawa Senators in December 2011 and initially played with their farm team Binghamton Senators in the AHL. On March 4, 2012, he played against the Florida Panthers for the first time with Ottawa in the NHL. After the game, Ottawa's coach Paul MacLean described Klinkhammer as one of his best players. In his 15 games of the NHL 2011/12 Klinkhammer got two assists.
On July 3, 2012, he signed a contract with the Phoenix Coyotes . Due to the 2012 NHL lockout , the winger first played with the Portland Pirates in the 2012/13 season . On October 23, 2012, he managed the first hat trick of his career. After the lockouts ended in January 2012, he played with Phoenix. He scored five goals and six assists in 22 games. In December 2014, he was transferred to league rivals Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Philip Samuelsson , who reacted to their injury-related staff situation in the storm. After only 10 missions, the Penguins gave him in January 2015, including a first-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, to the Edmonton Oilers , who in return transferred David Perron to Pittsburgh.
In June 2016, Klinkhammer left North America and joined HK Dinamo Minsk from the Continental Hockey League . After a year of play there, he was transferred to league competitor Ak Bars Kazan shortly after the start of the 2017/18 season in exchange for Stefan Elliott . With Kazan he won the Gagarin Cup in the same season . Ultimately he was active for two years for the club from Tatarstan before moving again within the league to HK Awangard Omsk . His engagement there ended after just one season in May 2020. Two months later, he was signed by league rival HK Dinamo Minsk, for whom he had already played in the 2016/17 season .
International
Klinkhammer made his international debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics , where he won the bronze medal with the Canadian team, which competed without NHL players.
