Marc-André Gragnani (born March 11, 1987 in Montréal , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Dinamo Minsk in the Continental Hockey League since August 2019 .
Career
Marc-André Gragnani began his career as an ice hockey player with PEI Rocket , for which he was active from 2003 to 2007 in the Canadian top junior league Québec Major Junior Hockey League . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2005 in the third round as a total of 87th player by the Buffalo Sabers .
For the Sabers he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2007/08 season . Overall, the defender was on the ice twice in his rookie year for Buffalo, the rest of the season he spent with their then farm team , the Rochester Americans from the American Hockey League . In the 2008-09 season , the left-shooter played four more times for the Sabers in the NHL, but spent the rest of the year again in the AHL, where he ran for their new farm team, the Portland Pirates .
In the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons he also played for the Pirates in the AHL. In 2011 Gragnani was awarded the Eddie Shore Award as the best defender in the league and was appointed to the AHL's First All-Star Team . In addition, he completed 16 missions in the NHL in the 2010/11 season and recommended himself with ten points for a regular place in the following season.
On February 27, 2012, the Buffalo Sabers transferred him to the Vancouver Canucks together with Zack Kassian in exchange for Cody Hodgson and Alexander Sulzer . At the Canucks he played the season to an end before Gragnani signed a one-year contract for $ 800,000 with the Carolina Hurricanes for the 2012/13 season . Then he was only used in the AHL except for one game in the NHL.
From May 2013 he was under contract with HC Lev Prague from the KHL . In July 2014 he signed a one-year contract with SC Bern of the National League A . He then returned to North America and joined the New Jersey Devils in July 2015 , who mainly used him with the Albany Devils in the AHL.
After the 2015/16 season his contract expired and Gragnani decided to return to Europe when he signed a one-year contract with HK Dinamo Minsk from the KHL. In the following two years he was able to establish himself as an offensive defender in the KHL, was nominated for the KHL All-Star Game 2018 and, with 29 assists in the 2017/18 season, was the best assists among the defenders. In August 2018 he left Dinamo Minsk and switched to Kunlun Red Star , for whom he collected 13 points in 23 KHL games.
In August 2019 he returned to Dinamo Minsk.
