Teemu Pulkkinen (born January 2, 1992 in Vantaa ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Dinamo Minsk from the Continental Hockey League since July 2018 .

Career

Teemu Pulkkinen began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of Jokerit Helsinki, with whose U18 juniors he took part in the Jr.B SM-sarja in the 2007/08 season and was Finnish champion at the end of the season. He was also the top scorer in the league with 23 goals. During the following season he continued to play for the U18 and U20 juniors of the club before he made his debut in the SM-liiga for the professional team of Jokerit . In three games he stayed without points and received six penalty minutes. In the following season he scored his first three scorer points in twelve games, including one goal, in professional ice hockey for Jokerit. He was then in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round as a total of 111 players from the Detroit Red Wings selected, having already in 2009 in the KHL Junior Draft from HC Dinamo Minsk had been selected.

In late May 2012 Pulkkinen received an NHL entry contract from the Red Wings, but was initially loaned to Jokerit. In April 2013, the Red Wings brought him to North America and used him at the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League . He made his debut in the NHL in March 2014.

During the 2014/15 season, the Finn made 31 appearances in the NHL, but was nevertheless the top scorer in the AHL with 34 goals and received the Willie Marshall Award for it . His 14 goals in the AHL playoffs were also the best, after which he was elected to the First All-Star team at the end of the season . Shortly before the start of the season, he was signed by the Minnesota Wild via the waiver in October 2016 . With the Wild, the attacker could not establish himself in the NHL line-up, played mainly for the Iowa Wild in the AHL and was finally handed over to the Arizona Coyotes in February 2017 without further consideration .

In June 2017, Pulkkinen was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft . There he was only used in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves before he returned to Europe in the summer of 2018 and joined the HK Dinamo Minsk .

International

For Finland Pulkkinen took part in the U18 Junior World Championships in 2009 and 2010 . In both tournaments he won the bronze medal with his team. Before that, he was part of Finland's U17 national team from 2007 and took part in international tournaments with them.

At the 2016 World Cup , he represented the senior national team of his home country for the first time at a World Cup and won the silver medal with the team.
