Shane Prince (born November 16, 1992 in Rochester , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Dinamo Minsk in the Continental Hockey League since September 2019 . He previously served in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa Senators and the New York Islanders .
Career
youth
Shane Prince was born in Rochester and grew up in the suburb of Spencerport . In his youth he played for the Syracuse Stars in Syracuse , about 150 kilometers away , before he was selected in the Priority Selection 2008 of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 261st position by the Kitchener Rangers . At the beginning of the 2008/09 season, the attacker played for the Rangers in the OHL, but was already given to the Ottawa 67's in January 2010 in exchange for a third-round draft pick .
In the 67's, Prince achieved his breakthrough in the 2010/11 season, in which he scored 88 points in 59 games , was invited to the CHL Top Prospects Game and was selected in the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2011 in 61st position by the Ottawa Senators . For now, however, Prince stayed another season in the OHL, in which he placed fourth on the scorer list with 43 goals and 47 assists .
Professional career
In July 2012, Prince signed an entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators, who initially used him on their farm team , the Binghamton Senators , in the American Hockey League (AHL). The attacker spent three seasons in Binghamton, during which he continuously increased his personal statistics until he was invited to the AHL All-Star Classic in the 2014/15 season and was elected to the AHL's Second All-Star Team . In addition, Prince made his debut in February of the same year in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa Senators, where he completed two games and recorded an assist. After the 2014/15 season, the Senators extended his expiring contract by one year.
In preparation for the 2015/16 season, Prince earned a regular place in the Senators' NHL squad and then came 42 missions in which the attacker posted twelve points. In February 2016, the Senators then gave him to the New York Islanders , including a seven-round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft , and in return received a third-round vote for the same draft. With the Islanders too, Prince was only used in the NHL, so his contract in New York was extended by two years in the summer of 2016. In the summer of 2018, however, this was not renewed, so he decided to move to Europe and signed a two-year contract with HC Davos from the Swiss National League . In mid-November, Prince asked the management of HC Davos to terminate his contract in order to restart his career in the NHL. A few days later, however, he signed a contract with HK Sibir Novosibirsk from the KHL until 2019 . He has been under contract with HK Dinamo Minsk since September 2019 .
