Mikhail Iharawitsch Stefanowitsch ( Belarusian Міхаіл Ігаравіч Стэфановіч , Russian Михаил Игоревич Стефанович / Mikhail Igorevich Stefanowitsch * 27. November 1989 in Minsk , Byelorussian SSR ) is a Belarusian ice hockey player who since 2019 again at HC Dinamo Minsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL ) plays.
Career
Michail Stefanowitsch began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HK Dinamo Minsk , where he was active until 2004. The attacker then moved to HK Homel , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Belarusian extra league in the 2006/07 season . He also won the national cup competition with his team this season. After the right-shooter began the following season in Gomel, he left the club after just one use and joined the Québec Remparts from the Canadian junior league QMJHL , for which he played until 2010. These had drawn him 54th place in the 2007 CHL Import Draft . In June 2009 he received an entry-level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs , who had drawn him the year before in the NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round as a total of 98th player, but remained in the roster of the Remparts. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season he played a few games for the Reading Royals from the ECHL and the Toronto Marlies from the American Hockey League before the Maple Leafs loaned him to HK Dinamo Minsk in November, which made his interest in Stefanowitsch clear had that he had selected him as his first pick in the KHL Junior Draft 2009 in a total of second position in the draft.
In January, his NHL transfer rights were transferred to the Dallas Stars in exchange for Fabian Brunnström . After two years in Minsk, he returned to HK Homel for two years in 2011, with whom he won the Belarusian cup competition in 2012 . In the 2013/14 season he first played a few games for Toros Neftekamsk in the Vysschaja Hockey League before he went to league competitor HK Lada Tolyatti in November . Before the 2014/15 season , he moved to Disel Pensa within the Wysschaja Hockey League . In November 2014 he was temporarily banned by RUSADA after missing a doping test. In April 2015, he received a two-year doping ban for Russia, the start of which was dated November 10, 2014.
Due to the suspension, he returned to North America in the summer of 2015, where he played for the Rapid City Rush in the ECHL . It only lasted a year there and has been back in Belarus since 2016. Between 2016 and 2018 he was for the extra league club HK Njoman Hrodna , with whom he was Belarusian champion in 2017 and 2018 . The following season he moved within the Extraliga to HK Junost Minsk , for which he scored 67 scorer points in 69 games by the end of the season. With 32 goals and 57 scorer points, he was also the top scorer and top scorer in the Extraliga main round and was consequently named the best striker in the league. At the end of the season he won another championship title with Junost Minsk and received another contract with HK Dinamo Minsk in the KHL due to the performance shown.
