Steam railway route Saxony
The Steam Railway Route Saxony is a themed route that leads through various regions of the Free State of Saxony . With three branches, it has a total length of 750 km. Along the Steam Railway Route Saxony, five narrow-gauge railways, three museum railways, many railway museums and monuments as well as park and field railways are presented to tourists together with partners from the hospitality industry and culture.
The Saxon-Upper Lusatian Railway Company has been the carrier of the Saxony Steam Railway Route since 2009. An office of the project for the coordination of the so far more than 150 cooperation partners and 68 thematic stations is located in the historic goods floor (Am Alten Güterboden 4) of the Radebeul Ost train station . Continuous signage is planned in the long term. The Steam Railway Route Saxony was awarded the MarketingAward Lighthouse of the Tourism Industry of the East German Savings Banks Association and in 2014 the Claus Köpcke Prize of the Saxon Narrow Gauge Railways Foundation as an innovative tourism project.

The route of the Steam Railway Route Saxony is primarily based on the course of the network of the Saxon narrow-gauge railways that have been preserved as a cultural heritage or that once existed . Railway nodes along regular-gauge railway lines in Saxony were also included. In addition to experiencing the history of the railway, there are cultural highlights and tourist offers to discover and enjoy the Saxon regions along the route.
