There are the “Küchwaldwiese” train station and the “tennis courts” and “Bw / Kosmonautenzentrum” stops . The “tennis courts” stop is both a block and a barrier post. It was operated as a pioneer railway until 1990 . It has the course book route number 12248 .

history

Park Railway April 2012

In 1952 the city council of Chemnitz decided to build a pioneer railway in the Volkspark Küchwald. Work began in March 1953 and from August 1, the first people could be transported on a section in shuttle operation. As in Dresden in the Great Garden and in Leipzig on Lake Auensee , the 381 mm gauge should also be used in Chemnitz. Since there were not enough vehicles for this in the GDR , the track width 600 mm was chosen. Abundant field railway material from the rubble railways was used . In the winter of 1952/53 at the Chemnitz Reichsbahn repair shop, three open passenger cars were built from field railroad trucks. The 6001 locomotive was a light rail diesel locomotive with 36 hp from Arnold Jung, Jungenthal . She received a steam locomotive fairing. Since this disguised steam locomotive was not well received by the passengers, the paneling was removed again. Some of the rails were refurbished by the tram operators. A light and air bath that was set up in the 1920s and 1930s to relax children with lung diseases served as a locomotive shed. On June 13, 1954, the annual "Railroader's Day", the Deputy Minister for Transport, Heinz Lindemann, opened the Karl-Marx-Stadt pioneer railway .

In 1957 the 6002 locomotive, an Ns 3p from VEB Lokomotivbau "Karl Marx" Babelsberg and two new passenger cars came to the pioneer railway. In the early 1970s, the 6002 locomotive and three of the open passenger cars received air brakes. In 1980 the 5th German-Soviet Youth Festival of Friendship took place in Karl-Marx-Stadt. The new pioneer station “Friendship” was handed over to its destination. In the following year, VEB Ziegelwerke Hainichen gave the pioneer railway a V 10 C as a gift. This diesel locomotive with 100 hp was put into service in 1983 as the 6003. In the late 1980s, some cars were painted light blue with a rainbow. In August 1988 the pioneer railway had to perform at the 8th pioneer meeting.

In 1990, not only did Karl-Marx-Stadt get its old name back, a new name also had to be found for the pioneer railway. From then on it was called the Park Railway. In 1993 the park railway was supposed to be closed as part of austerity measures. Protests and collections of signatures prevented this. The then First Mayor and later Lord Mayor of the city of Chemnitz said during a visit on site that the railway had to be preserved. A development association was founded on April 4, 1991 with the aim of promoting children and young people outside of school in typical railway activities as well as providing material and ideal support for the small railway. This association supported as well as sponsors and one of the Chemnitz Free Press organized fundraiser to build a new closed car in the style of K.Sächs.Sts.EB As the Free Press organized no press festivals, organized the Friends Parkbahn festivals, which since 1992 thousands of visitors As until 1989, the "FP" press festivals lured people to the Küchwald .

In the inner courtyard of the newly built Bw, a model railway system with models from LGB was created.

In August 1994, a deliberately set fire led to great destruction on the premises of the railway depot. Without the support of the friends' association and the people of Chemnitz, the continued operation and construction of the locomotive shed, where training takes place in the winter months, would not have been possible.

At the end of 1995 a non-profit GmbH was founded as an operating company. All full-time employees were given notice by Deutsche Bahn AG. Since May 1994 , a Henschel type "Riesa" steam locomotive has been steaming through the Küchwald on permanent loan from a private citizen from Frankfurt am Main. This locomotive was purchased by the PEC in 2002. After 1990, more locomotives came to the Park Railway. These were a diesel locomotive Ns 2f with 30 HP as 6004, a battery locomotive of the type B 360 with 4.2 kW as 6005 and in 2002 the Schöma CFL-60 DCL with an output of 140 HP as 6006.

This Trabant for 600 mm track width was presented at the vehicle parade in 2004. It is the first Trabant on rails.
Every year the "Parkbahnmaus Klaus" invites you to the mascot meeting.

In June 2004 the 50th anniversary was celebrated with a week of events, the highlights of which were the “Meeting of Generations” for former active pioneer and park railroaders, many of whom later learned a trade at the railroad and are still working there, and the vehicle parade were.

The diesel-powered "Adler" replica of the Görlitz Park Railway and the first Trabant on rails were used. A wedding car belongs to the inventory of the Chemnitz Park Railway.

The PEC acquired a mascot after 1990. After a naming competition it was named "Parkbahnmaus Klaus". Every year on October 3rd, the Parkbahnmaus Klaus hosts a mascot meeting that is known beyond Chemnitz. The Park Railway offers a program for young and old with fairy tale searches and moonlight rides.

Since its opening, the park railway has always been running clockwise Küchwaldwiese – tennis courts – railway depot – Küchwaldwiese; the signaling technology is also aligned. This could change with the planned extension of the route to the ice-skating stadium, since passenger trains Küchwaldwiese – ice-skating stadium – Küchwaldwiese would be conceivable. According to the timetable, there is currently a local freight train that brings coal from the depot to the Küchwaldwiese station and on the return journey travels a few hundred meters in the opposite direction. Furthermore, guests of the Parkeisenbahn Chemnitz are referred to as travelers.

Operating points

Küchwaldwiese

The operations center was opened in 1954 as the “New Life” station and has been the starting and ending point of all passenger trains ever since. The wooden building from the Karl-Marx-Stadt-Reichenhain stop served as the reception building . Since there were no switches, it was actually not a train station, but a stopping point. In 1957 Neues Leben received two form signals, which were replaced in 1973 by two simple light signals.

In 1980 a new station building was built because the previous one was too small. The building was opened on May 17, 1980 and the site was renamed "Friendship". Since then, the train station has been illuminated by BG 0 lights from VEB Leuchtenbau Leipzig . In 1990 it was again renamed the “Küchwaldwiese” station. In 1993/1994 the old light signals were replaced by two Hl signals . In the spring of 2001, the "Küchwaldwiese station" received a stump track and thus a switch, so that by definition Küchwaldwiese was now a station. The siding was gradually expanded to a second platform track with a platform and an auxiliary and shunting signal. As early as 1994, the first level crossing in the direction of the tennis courts was secured with a WSSB half-barrier system and in 1996 a water crane was installed for the new steam traction in the station.

In the spring of 2014, a new switch was put into operation at the entrance from the Bahnbetriebswerk / Kosmonautenzentrum Hp. Since then, the express trains have often been routed through platform 2, while arrivals and departures continue to take place on platform 1. On days with two-train operation, departure is also from platform 2. At the same time, the entry signal 'A' and the exit signal 'B' were moved backwards and renewed. In spring 2015, a new electromechanical full barrier was put into operation at the Festplatz level crossing , kilometer 2.078. This can also be operated locally, for example on days with a large number of visitors. The new signals and barriers often came from the parallel renovation of Chemnitz main station . In the summer of 2018, the one-storey reception building is to be increased by one floor so that the lounge and changing rooms for the staff will be on the upper floor and the waiting rooms and toilets for guests in the basement.

The official abbreviation is DCPEK , Bf Kww is common among staff .

Item 1

The barrier post 1 at kilometer 0.198 was closed in 1968. It had a small guard house and a double mechanical barrier.

Tennis courts Hp

On April 15, 1992, the tennis courts stop was officially opened at the block of the same name. It is located right next to the block station house and has two BG 0 lights from VEB LBL , a bench and a platform sign. It is only served by passenger trains.

Bk tennis courts

In 1957 the “tennis courts” block was put into operation at kilometer 1.15. It operates the block signal 'C' as well as the mechanical full barrier at the Sechserweg level crossing . Furthermore, tickets can be sold from the house and loudspeaker announcements can be made on the platform. The block position is only manned if there is sufficient staff; then usually with a block guard and a gatekeeper, but also with a platform supervisor and a loudspeaker announcement, earlier also with a ticket seller. The level crossing is illuminated with a BG 0 light from VEB LBL .

The official abbreviation is DCPET , Bk Tp is common among staff .

Railway depot / cosmonaut center Hp

The stop was opened in 1998 and was only called "Bahnbetriebswerk Hp" until the early 2000s. In the afternoon, in addition to the passenger trains, the second-round express trains also stop here to enable guests to visit the garden railroad in the depot. The stop has a bench and a platform sign, but does not have its own platform lighting. However, it is partially illuminated by the adjacent alternative junction.

Awanst depot

Before the fire, the depot had a wooden engine shed with initially two and later three siding, an investigation pit and a gas station. In 1996 and 1997 the depot was completely rebuilt. Since then it has had a double-track locomotive and wagon hall, a single-track workshop hall, four additional outdoor sidings, offices, lounges and training rooms, a café and an inner courtyard with a garden railway system.
