Location of Löthain in Saxony

Löthain is a district of the municipality Käbschützal in the district of Meißen , Saxony . The village is located seven kilometers west of Meißen in the Lommatzscher care . Around 1900 the place consisted mainly of three and four-sided courtyards. After the land reform, numerous new farmhouses were built, mainly on Steigerstrasse. Since 1990 the place has been growing due to the construction of many single-family houses.

From the 19th century, Löthain was an independent rural community . On March 1, 1974, it merged with the Jahna community to form the Jahna-Löthain community , which became part of the Käbschützal community on January 1, 1994.

Löthain is 223  m above sea level. NN and covers a cadastral area of ​​316.16 hectares. The most important raw material is the kaolin found in the soil , which is required for the production of porcelain in the Meissen porcelain factory . The village lies in the Lommatzscher care on fertile loess soil. The landscape around Löthain is characterized by rolling hills, fields and orchards. In the area there are several forests and ponds created by pinging, where rare animals such as the protected fire-bellied toad and the red kite live.

Neighboring to the east is the Meissen district of Dobritz , and to the southeast of Löthain are the Klipphausen districts of Garsebach and Robschütz .

history

Löthain was first mentioned in 1334 as Lethen. In 1435 there was already a farm and in 1551 there was a manor belonging to the von Heynitz family. In 1690 the Vitzthum von Eckstädt family was enfeoffed with the Löthain manor , which at that time also included Canitz , Pauschütz and Löbschütz . In the Seven Years' War , the village burned down completely during the Battle of Löthain in 1759. The heavily indebted Vitzthums von Eckstädt could not hold the estate. After lengthy debt processes and frequent changes of ownership, the Marienberg miner Jobst Christoph von Römer finally bought the estate in 1796 . In 1845 he leased the manor to Heinrich Adolph von Steiger in return for annual interest payments, natural goods and services. The von Steiger family managed and administered the Löthain manor until 1945. In the course of the land reform, the landowners were expropriated. Inventory, land and outbuildings were distributed to new farmers. The Roman house itself was used as a school and residential building until 2000.

In 1953 the first type III agricultural production cooperative was founded in Löthain. It was named "Freedom". With the LPG Type I "Glück auf" founded in 1960, it formed the LPG "Meißner Land" from 1970 onwards. In 1973 the merger with the LPG "Walther Ulbricht" in Jahna to the LPG "Jahna-Löthain" took place.

Kaolin and clay have been mined in Löthain and the surrounding area since 1776 . The narrow-gauge railway Wilsdruff-Gärtitz was inaugurated in 1909 and got a train station in Löthain. From then on, it transported the raw materials extracted over the centuries in 73 shafts underground and above ground to Meißen and Lommatzsch. In 1966, the railway between Meißen and Löthain was stopped. On October 28, 1972, the Löthain-Lommatzsch line was shut down. A school had existed in Löthain since the 19th century. The school building on Steigerstrasse was built in 1897 and used until 1975. Later the Kindergarten Zwergenland was housed there.

economy

The area of Lommatzscher care is characterized by intensive agriculture. The areas around Löthain are managed by agricultural cooperatives.

In addition to agriculture, mining is an important industry in Löthain and the surrounding area. The kaolin and Tonwerke Seilitz-Löthain GmbH operate the mine Canitz-Nord and a plant in Steiger Schacht. Numerous medium-sized companies are based in Löthain.

Infrastructure

Löthain is on the B 101 between Meißen and Nossen. The bus lines 412 and 422 of the Meißen transport company go to the town several times a day and stop at four stops. There has been a volunteer fire brigade in Löthain since 1942 and 1947. Johanniter has been running a day-care center with a traffic garden since 2006. Since October 2010, the Löthains luminaire has been made with energy-saving LED technology.

Attractions

The Heimatverein Käbschützal eV has set up a museum in the former narrow-gauge railway station in Löthain. It shows the historical condition of the station during the GDR years up to the cessation of operations and contains many documents and relics on the Löthain railway history. The museum station is part of the Saxony Steam Railway Route .

Seven buildings in Löthain have been included in the list of cultural monuments for Käbschützal by the Saxon Ministry of the Interior . a. a pillar on the Korbitzhöhe and the so-called "Roman House".
