The Klingenthal railway station is the day to stop downgraded former train station of the city of the same name in Saxony . The station was important until 1946 as a border station and from 1916 to 1964 as the starting point for the Klingenthal – Sachsenberg-Georgenthal narrow-gauge railway .

history

Klingenthal received a railway connection with the Zwota – Klingenthal branch of the Chemnitz-Aue-Adorfer Railway Company, which opened on December 24, 1875 . A border station for the Buschtěhrad Railway (BEB), which in turn opened its Falkenau – Unter-Graslitz line on June 1, 1876, was planned, but since it was not possible to agree on a common location for the border station, this project was not implemented for the time being . The existing terminus station was expanded again at the end of the 1870s, and an annex was added to the station building in 1882.

It was not until May 5, 1884 that a contract was signed for the location of the border station. The construction costs for the station were partly taken over, the remaining seven kilometers between Unter-Graslitz and Klingenthal were mostly built by BEB, only the 800 m long section on the Saxon side was built by the Royal Saxon State Railways . Construction work for the actual station began on April 11, 1885. The new station was opened on October 1, 1886 together with the newly built line. The ownership and operating conditions of the community station were precisely regulated in the contract signed in 1884, so each railway administration had its own freight transport systems, locomotive treatment systems and boiler houses . Only a few tracks, the spacious, 120-meter-long station building and the platforms were shared.

After the opening of the Falkenstein – Muldenberg railway , the transport services increased significantly, so in 1892 the track system was expanded and a new intermediate platform was built.

With the construction of the narrow-gauge railway Klingenthal – Sachsenberg-Georgenthal , opened in 1916 , Klingenthal became a gauge changing station . On the passenger side, three tracks and a railcar shed were built, on the goods side eight tracks, two trolley pits, an equipment loading ramp and a locomotive shed for the narrow-gauge railway. A substation was built at the eastern head of the station to provide power. Klingenthal reached its greatest expansion with 46 switch units and 24 tracks for the standard gauge as well as 15 switch units and 12 tracks for the narrow gauge.

Even after the nationalization of the BEB in 1923, the double management remained between the Saxon State Railways or the DR and the ČSD . It was not until the invasion of the Sudetenland that Klingenthal lost its status as a border station. Although border traffic was briefly carried out again in 1945/46 after the Second World War , traffic to the ČSD was quickly terminated.

With the cessation of passenger traffic on the narrow-gauge railway, the Klingenthal station lost further importance in terms of traffic. Today only a memorial train on the station forecourt reminds of the narrow-gauge railway. In 1976 the bridge over the F 283 and the Zwota at the eastern head of the station was demolished.

At the end of the 1990s, the track system, which existed for twelve tracks before the fall of the Wall, was dismantled except for two tracks and two points. Since then, Klingenthal has only had the status of a stopping point with an alternate connection point.

Since May 2000, cross-border traffic has been carried out again by the Vogtland Railway. The temporary bridge built for this purpose over the B 283 has now been replaced by a new building.

After years of vacancy, the reception building was demolished in September 2011. Since 2008 it has been owned by the city of Klingenthal.
