Fabian Brunnström (born February 6, 1985 in Helsingborg ) is a Swedish ice hockey player in the position of left winger who has been under contract with the Malmö Redhawks in HockeyAllsvenskan since January 2015 .
Career
Born in Helsingborg and raised in Jonstorp Brunnström first went through the junior departments of Jonstorps IF , where he made his debut in the senior team in the third-highest Swedish division in the 2002/03 season at the age of 17. In the summer of 2003, the Swede moved to Helsingborgs HC in his hometown, Sweden's fourth-highest league, where he scored 42 points in two seasons. It was transferred back to Jonstorps IF, where he had an excellent playing year with 44 points in 38 games. He also came to three missions in the jersey of Rögle BK in the HockeyAllsvenskan , in which he remained pointless. After only one year in Jonstorp, Brunnström left the team and moved to Borås HC in the 1st division . With 73 points scorer in 41 games, the striker led the team to win the title and thus to promotion to the Allsvenskan.
Through his achievements, both the teams of the Elitserien and the National Hockey League became aware of him, although they had not considered him in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and he had remained undrafted . Brunnström finally decided to sign a two-year contract with Färjestad BK for the 2007/08 season , with which he reached the championship semi-finals. In the course of the season, despite his current contract, he was repeatedly associated with the NHL franchises , as he was considered a free agent according to their statutes . Above all the Vancouver Canucks , Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks , but also the Detroit Red Wings , Dallas Stars and Montréal Canadiens as well as a large number of other teams showed interest in a possible engagement of one of the greatest undrafted talents outside the NHL in the summer of 2008. Am May 9th, he finally signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars.
After Brunnström had completed the training camp with the stars the following autumn, he found himself in the stands in the team's first two games of the season. In the third game of the season, on October 15, 2008, he finally made his debut, in which he scored three goals and a hat trick . This had previously only been achieved by two players - namely Alex Smart in 1943 and Réal Cloutier in 1979 - in NHL history on their league debut.
Brunnström finished his rookie season with 29 points in 55 games. In the 2009/10 season he fell short of expectations and only scored two goals in 44 games, which is why he was sent to the farm team for the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League before the end of the season . He also started the 2010/11 season in the farm team and came to 24 points in 38 games before Brunnström was given to the Toronto Maple Leafs in January 2011 in an exchange deal for the Belarusian Michail Stefanowitsch .
