Gustavo Abel Dezotti (born February 14, 1964 in Monte Buey , Cordoba Province ) is a former Argentine football player .

Career

society

The striker Gustavo Dezotti began his professional career in 1982 at the Newell's Old Boys in Rosario . He stayed there until 1988 under contract. At the end of the 1988 season he won the Argentine championship with his team and then moved to Europe to Lazio Rome , where he played 29 league games in his only season for Lazio, but scored only 3 goals. He moved to the Italian club US Cremonese in 1989 , where he scored 51 goals in 154 league games until 1994. He then played in Mexico at Club León and Atlas Guadalajara and ended his career in 1998 at Defensor Sporting Club in Uruguay .

National team

For the Argentine national football team , he played nine international matches and scored one goal. He took part in the 1990 World Cup in Italy . In the final against Germany, Dezotti played alongside Diego Maradona in attack for the suspended Claudio Caniggia . He was cautioned in the first half. In the 86th minute of the game he was sent off after a stranglehold against Jürgen Kohler . The assault happened a minute after Andreas Brehme had put Germany 1-0 in front.
