With the Blackhawks, Kane won the Stanley Cup three times and was honored with various personal awards, including the Conn Smythe , Art Ross and Hart Memorial Trophy . He also recorded over 1000 scorer points in the NHL . With the national team of the United States , he won the silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics .
Career
Junior area (2003-2007)
Kane was selected in 2004 in the fifth round of the OHL Priority Selection Draft by the London Knights , but initially decided to play in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in the North American Hockey League . There he was able to prove his qualities as a dangerous right winger when he scored 172 points in the first two years.
After winning the U18 World Championship with the US team in the spring of 2006 , he finally moved to the London Knights in the Canadian Junior League OHL , where he played together with Sam Gagner and Sjarhej Kaszizyn in an attack series. During the season he also played at the Junior World Championship , where he was the fourth best scorer of the tournament with five goals and four assists and won the bronze medal. He was also elected to the tournament's All-Star Team.
For the London Knights he scored 62 goals and 83 assists in 58 games in the 2006/07 season, making him the league's top scorer. He moved with the Knights to the final of the OHL playoffs , but failed there at the Plymouth Whalers . He was named the best rookie and best scorer of the season by the OHL and the Canadian umbrella organization for junior boys , the CHL . In the election to the MVP of the OHL, he finished second behind John Tavares .
Chicago Blackhawks (since 2007)
Due to his good performance, he was rated by many experts and scouts as the greatest talent for the NHL Entry Draft 2007 and was ultimately selected as the overall first by the Chicago Blackhawks . On July 25, he finally signed his first professional three-year contract in Chicago, earning him $ 875,000 annually, the maximum salary for rookies .
After he was able to book five assists in the first six games of the 2007/08 season , he scored his first NHL goal in the game against the Colorado Avalanche on October 19, 2007 and also prepared two more goals. Four days later he celebrated his first four-point game when he was involved in a 4-7 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on all goals of the Blackhawks as a two-time scorer and preparer. Kane was able to bring consistent performance over the entire season and finished the season with 72 points scorer, which he led all rookies. With Chicago he won the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career in the 2009/10 season , scoring the decisive goal in the sixth game in overtime .
During the lockout in the NHL 2012 , Kane played at EHC Biel in the NLA . The American scored 13 goals and gave 10 assists in 20 games. At the Spengler Cup 2012 he joined the host HC Davos and was appointed to the All-Star team. In the shortened to 48 games NHL season, Kane made it to 23 goals and 32 assists in 48 games. In the playoffs, Kane confirmed these performances with nine goals and ten assists and was voted the most valuable player in the playoffs when his team won the Stanley Cup .
In July 2014, Kane and teammate Jonathan Toews signed an eight-year contract extension that should earn the two players an average annual salary of 10.5 million each. During the 2014/15 season, Kane was the top scorer in the league with 27 goals and 37 assists, before he sustained a shoulder injury in the game against the Florida Panthers in February 2015 after a check from opponent Alex Petrovic and was then out for several weeks. At the start of the play-offs, the American was ready for action again and again played a key role in his team's third Stanley Cup win in five years with Toews and Brandon Saad . Together with Tyler Johnson from final opponent Tampa Bay Lightning , Kane was the strongest offensive player of the post-season , each with 23 points scorer.
From October to December of the 2015/16 season, Kane scored at least one scorer point in 26 consecutive games, setting a new record for US players in the NHL (previously 18; Eddie Olczyk and Phil Kessel ) as well as a new franchise Blackhawks record (previously 21; Bobby Hull ). He also managed the longest series since the 1992/93 season (30; Mats Sundin ). He was also named NHL Player of the Month for November.
In the further course of the 2015/16 season, Kane scored over 100 points for the first time in his NHL career and won the Art Ross Trophy with these 106 points . After the end of the season he was voted the most valuable player by journalists ( Hart Memorial Trophy ) as well as by fellow players ( Ted Lindsay Award ), making him the first American to receive one of these three trophies. Kane was also elected to the First All-Star team. Kane increased this performance to 110 scorer points in the 2018/19 season, placing him third on the scorer list .
In January 2020, Kane became the 90th player in NHL history to reach the milestone of 1000 scorer points .
Controversy
On August 9, 2009, Patrick Kane was arrested in Buffalo along with his cousin James M. Kane . According to police reports, Kane was taken into custody at 5:00 am after he and his cousin assaulted a taxi driver. The taxi ride was $ 14.80, the Kanes gave the taxi driver $ 15. However, since the taxi driver was short of 20 cents, they took the money back and beat the driver, who had broken glasses and lacerations on his face. In court, Kane pleaded "not guilty". After the violent crime charge was dropped, the charges of minor bodily harm, theft and harassment remained. During the August trial, Kane and his cousin finally pleaded guilty to the molestation and received a one-year suspended sentence .
In August 2015, the US regional newspaper The Buffalo News reported that Kane is a suspect in a rape case in the investigation by the Hamburg (New York) police . On the night of August 1st to 2nd, he allegedly raped a woman after going to a nightclub in his local estate. In immediate response to the allegations being made public, Kane was removed from the cover of the NHL 16 video game and all associated marketing campaigns from EA Sports . After a forensic examination could not find any traces of Kane's DNA in the genital area of the alleged victim and the victim's statements contradicted the results of the DNA smear, prosecutors announced that they would not conduct any further investigations against Kane. The alleged victim then signed an affidavit that she would not take any further legal action against Kane.
