62nd National Hockey League All-Star Game

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 62nd National Hockey League All-Star Game took place on January 29, 2017 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles , California . The hosts were the Los Angeles Kings , who played the All-Star Game for the third time since 1981 and 2002 . The Metropolitan Division won the All-Star Game , which was played in the same format as last year , by defeating the Atlantic (10: 6) and the Pacific Division (4: 3) in the final. In addition, she provided Wayne Simmonds as the MVP of the All-Star Game.

mode

In the run-up to the NHL All-Star Games, four teams were formed, each consisting of players from one division. One player from each division was selected by means of a fan vote, who also acts as team captain. However, this year, following the controversy surrounding John Scott last year , the league set the players for fans to choose from. The other ten players in the eleven-man squad (six forwards, three defenders, two goalkeepers) were determined directly by the NHL, with each of the 30 franchises represented by at least one actor. Carey Price , Sidney Crosby , PK Subban and Connor McDavid prevailed in the fan vote and thus lead their teams as captains. The coaches who and their teams have the best points average in the respective division were automatically nominated as team bosses (deadline January 10, 2017). These were Michel Therrien , John Tortorella , Bruce Boudreau and Peter DeBoer , although Tortorella canceled a few days before the All-Star Game for family reasons and was replaced by Wayne Gretzky . Like many other personalities in ice hockey, Gretzky was present at the All-Star celebrations because the NHL honored the 100 best players of the past 100 years with the "NHL100" on its centenary.

As in the previous year, two semi-finals were held to determine the finalists. Each of the three games was played in 3-on-3 mode over 20 minutes each. In the event of a tie after regular time, a shootout would have followed immediately .

Skills Competition

As in previous events, the Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition took place this year on the day before the actual All-Star Game , in which the players compete against each other in individual competitions. What was new at the NHL All-Star Game 2017, however, was that the division with the most points in the skills competition was allowed to choose its opponent in the semi-finals. The winner was the Atlantic Division , which chose the Metropolitan Division as an opponent , so that the game plan from last year, which was divided between the two conferences , was retained. While Shea Weber fired the hardest shot for the third time in a row (approx. 165 km / h), Connor McDavid, the fastest runner , beat a best time held by Mike Gartner from the NHL All-Star Game in 1996 . Sidney Crosby had the most precise shot .
