The 31st National Hockey League All-Star Game was played on January 24, 1978 in Buffalo , New York . The hosts of the game were the Buffalo Sabers for the first time .

The event, which was held in the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium , was attended by the best players in the National Hockey League . The teams were separated after the two NHL conferences. The stadium was home to 16,433 spectators for a combined revenue of $ 118,601.
