The 26th National Hockey League All-Star Game was played on January 30, 1973 in New York . The game took place in Madison Square Garden , home of the New York Rangers host . The Eastern Conference All-Stars beat the Western Conference in a high-class game with 5: 4. The game saw 16,426 spectators. Greg Polis of the Pittsburgh Penguins was named MVP .
