22nd National Hockey League All-Star Game

The 22nd National Hockey League All-Star Game was played on January 21, 1969 in Montreal , Québec . The hosts of the game were the Montréal Canadiens for the ninth time .

The event, which was held at the Montreal Forum , was attended by the best players from the National Hockey League . After the NHL All-Stars competed against the reigning Stanley Cup winner in the past , the players in the Eastern Division played against those in the Western Division for the first time . The NHL Writers Association designated twelve players per team. The respective coach then filled the squad. There were 16,260 spectators at the stadium for a combined revenue of $ 78,023.

Course of the game

For the last time in the history of the All-Star Games there was a draw. In later years the game was decided in overtime . As in the last 3-3 draw in 1963 , Frank Mahovlich was the MVP of the All-Star Games. He was the first player to receive this award for the second time.
