Carol Marcel Vadnais (born September 25, 1945 in Montréal , Québec ; † August 31, 2014 in Laval , Québec) was a Canadian ice hockey player and coach who played 1193 games for the Canadiens de Montréal during his active career between 1964 and 1983 , Oakland Seals and California Golden Seals , Boston Bruins , New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League on the position ofDefender has denied. With the Canadiens de Montréal and Boston Bruins, the multiple national player celebrated the greatest success of his playing career by winning the Stanley Cup . In addition, Vadnais worked as a trainer between 1983 and 1987.
Career
Vadnais played during his junior years between 1963 and 1964 for the Montréal NDG Monarchs , with whom he moved into the Memorial Cup , and from 1964 and 1966 for the Canadien junior de Montréal in the Ontario Hockey Association . From there, the trained striker switched to the professional field and was used between 1966 and 1968 for both the Houston Apollos in the Central Professional Hockey League and the Canadiens de Montréal in the National Hockey League . With the Canadiens he won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 1968 .
Before the 1968/69 season , in which he took part in his first of a total of six NHL All-Star Games , the Canadian, now used as a defender, was selected by the Oakland Seals in the intra-league draft . For the franchise , which played under the name California Golden Seals from 1970 , Vadnais acted as team captain from the beginning of the 1970/71 season until his move to the Boston Bruins in February 1972 . Together with Vadnais, Don O'Donoghue moved to Boston, while Reggie Leach , Rick Smith and Bob Stewart were sent to the Golden Seals. In the 1971/72 season , Vadnais celebrated winning the Stanley Cup with the Bruins. Over the next three seasons, the defender was extremely successful with the Bruins led by Bobby Orr and collected 74 scorer points in the 1974/75 season . Shortly after the beginning of the following season, Vadnais was transferred to the New York Rangers with Phil Esposito , while Brad Park , Jean Ratelle and Joe Zanussi moved to Boston. For the Rangers, Vadnais played another seven seasons until the summer of 1982 in the NHL. Before the 1982/83 season he was then selected in the NHL Waiver Draft by the New Jersey Devils and spent his last year as an active player before ending his career at the age of 37.
Following the end of his career, Vadnais worked between 1983 and 1985 as an assistant coach for his ex-New York Rangers team under head coach Herb Brooks . After that, he was primarily responsible for the Canadien junior de Verdun from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec for two years before he retired completely from ice hockey and worked as a real estate agent in the vicinity of his native Montréal . He died on August 31, 2014 at the age of 68 in Laval of complications from cancer .
International
Vadnais played for his home country at the 1977 World Cup in the Austrian capital of Vienna . There he was used in all ten tournament games and collected four scorer points . Among them were three goals, with which he contributed to reaching fourth place. In addition, Vadnais was a defender in the 1976 Canada Cup , which the Canadians won. However, he was not used in the course of the tournament.
